By Levinus Nwabughiogu ABUJA- President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday night spoke with his Vice, Yemi Osinbajo who’s
currently acting in his capacity on the state of the nation. This was as the Acting President stated that Nigeria would ensure a stronger African Union, AU. Vice President Osinbajo The Office of the Acting President in a statement on Monday said that the verbal exchange with was done on the phone between the two leaders was to “review local and other developments including the situation in Gambia, where Nigerian troops are playing a leading role in resolving the fallouts of that country’s presidential election.” The statment added that the “President, who is on vacation and the Vice President also discussed other pertinent national issues.” Recall that President Buhari while proceeding on a medical vacation on Thursday last week transmitted the powers of his office to Osinbajo through a letter he wrote to the National Assembly. Meanwhile, the Acting President has said that Nigeria would continue to work together with other African countries to ensure that the African Union becomes a stronger and more robust organization for the benefit of the continent and its people.

Osinbajo, spoke while receiving Ali Farah Assoweh, a Special Envoy of President Ismail Omar Guelleh of Djibouti, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Monday. Assoweh who is also the Miniter of Justice of his country had brought a message addressed to the Nigerian President, detailing Djibouti’s interest in one of the positions up for contest in the AU elections scheduled for later this month, seeking Nigeria’s support. He stated that his country needed Nigeria’s support for its candidate for Deputy Chairman of the African Union Commission, and expressed gratitude to the Nigerian government for the hospitality accorded to him and his delegation. Osinbajo who noted that Nigeria and Djibouti enjoy “very good diplomatic relationship over the years,”also said “It is important for Africa to always put the best foot forward and we will continue to work together with the President of Djibouti to make AU stronger and more robust.”

Osinbajo also expressed appreciation to the President of Djibouti for the country’s support to Nigeria in various international platforms, assuring that the Federal Government would consider the candidate even as he observed that the position was one that had to be occupied by the right person.
